Five years after its first international Symposium at the recent inaugurated Can Ruti Campus headquarters in Badalona (Barcelona), the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute organizes a new international gathering on the latest advancements in haematology research. Coordinated by Dr Manel Esteller, Dr Anna Bigas, Dr Laura Belver and Dr Marcus Buschbeck, the Symposium “Updates on Genetics and Epigenetics of Haematological Malignancies: From Knowledge to Applications” will take place on 20-22 November at the Josep Carreras Institute.

In its commitment to excellence in research, the Josep Carreras Institute convenes this international conference to foster scientific collaboration between leading scientists and clinicians in the field of leukaemia and lymphoma. The programme will feature the most cutting-edge fields of hemato-oncology, as cell biology, immunology, genetics, epigenetics and computational biology, among others. The latest technologies like single-cell analysis, next generation sequencing and genome editing will also be key players of the event, with experts on the field commenting on the endless possibilities they open for research and diagnosis.

The IJC Symposium will have an exceptional panel of international speakers: Iannis Aifantis, New York University (NYU); Francesco Bertoni, Institute of Oncology Research (Ior); Anna Bigas, Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) and Hospital del Mar Research Institute; Vincenzo Calvanese, Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC); Jan Cools, KU Leuven, Center for Human Genetics; Matteo Della Porta, Humanitas Cancer Center; Courtney DiNardo, MD Anderson; Manel Esteller, Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC); Florian H. Heidel, Hannover Medical School (MHH); Ross Levine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute; Ari Melnick, Weill Cornell Medicine; Michael Milsom, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ); Teresa Palomero, Columbia University; Bruno Paiva, Cima Universidad de Navarra, Research Center (CIMA); Christoph Plass, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ); Alberto Orfao, University of Salamanca; Brigitte Schlegelberger, Hannover Medical School (MHH); Maria L. Toribio, Centro de Biología Molecular "Severo Ochoa" and George Vassiliou, Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.

The event will also include short talks and poster presentations, which will be selected by the Organizing Committee. Participants are invited to submit abstracts for selection for oral and poster presentations before Friday, 27 September 2024 via the registration platform.

The Organizing Committee, on behalf of Molecular Oncology,  FEBS’ open access journal on basic, translational, and clinical cancer research articles, will also award the prize for the best communication (oral or abstract) presented at the symposium.

The “Updates on Genetics and Epigenetics of Haematological Malignancies” Symposium receives support from dD Biolab, Cultek, Ecogen, Bonsai Lab and BGI.
