As part of its strategy, since 2018, the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer has worked closely with leading cancer research centres. This commitment has been reflected in significant and numerous grants for research and innovation projects, as well as in institutional support to uphold scientific and managerial excellence in research centres.

Now, through the 2024 AECC Scientific Foundation Centres Accreditation, the Foundation has recognised the excellence of 13 cancer research centres, including the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute. This prestigious accreditation highlights the Institute’s scientific quality and institutional management while also granting it access to exclusive grants and funding.

The Josep Carreras Institute, which was already part of the previous Foundation Centres Programme, has undergone a rigorous evaluation process to obtain this new accreditation, which will be valid for four years (2024–2028). The Institute’s strategic plan focuses on enhancing multidisciplinary synergies, promoting internationalisation, and driving innovation, with the aim of advancing cancer research, particularly in leukaemia and other malignant haematological conditions.

By joining the Foundation Centres Accreditation, the Josep Carreras Institute will continue working closely with the AECC Scientific Foundation to achieve its goal of increasing overall cancer survival rates to 70% by 2030.
