Mr Manel Balcells, Catalan Minister of Health, has visited the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, a CERCA center of the Generalitat de Catalunya. During his visit, the Catalan Minister was accompanied by the Head of his Cabinet, Iria Caamiña, the Director of the Institute, Dr Manel Esteller, and the Acting Managing Director, Ana Garrido.

The visit began with a tour through the center's facilities, such as the laboratories, the Single Cell Unit and the cell culture rooms. Mr Balcells has had the opportunity to discuss with some researchers of the Institute and learn first-hand the work they do in leukemia and other hematological diseases research.

Mr Balcells, who is also the first vice-president of the Josep Carreras Institute’s Board of Trustees, has met with the management team of the center, who has presented the current and future projects of the Institute. They also discussed the progress made in research in the recent years and the future challenges.

The Catalan Minister of Health has commended the work and efforts of the Institute's researchers in the fight against cancer, especially leukemia and other hematological diseases. Dr Manel Esteller thanked Mr Balcells for his visit and emphasized the importance of research in solving society's health problems.
