The aim of the CarrerasLeaders program is to fund 16 excellent postdoctoral researchers for a period of 3 years. The selected participants will join the Josep Carreras Institute’s research groups or research-performing Scientific Platforms and perform international secondments to academic and non-academic institutions. The program receives funding from the European Commission Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND Program and counts with the collaboration of the Josep Carreras International Foundation and the scientific coordination of Dr Buschbeck.

The CarrerasLeaders Call is Open: a new Postdoctoral Program to empower Future Leaders to Fight Blood Cancers

CarrerasLeaders is a new innovative and international postdoctoral program, designed by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC). This world-wide unique postdoctoral program covers the entire spectrum of research and innovation in blood cancers, going from understanding disease biology to the implementation of products and processes in the market and into the clinical practice through the development of a global translational approach. Applicants will have complete freedom of research choice within the scope of blood cancers.

The program was launched on March 1 and will be open for applications until May 7 2023, giving a unique opportunity for 16 postdoctoral fellows to boost their careers from a three-dimensional perspective: leadership, independence, and consolidation. Each fellow will be incorporated in one of the 39 Groups and 8 Scientific Platforms of the Josep Carreras Institute in one of its 5 locations.

The key components of the program are:

  • Scientific scope: blood cancers

  • Collaborative projects ideally with international and intersectoral secondments (between 3-11 months)

  • High level scientific training-through-research and vocational training in transferable skills

Eligible candidates should have up to 7 years of postdoctoral experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.

The selection of fellows will comprise of 3 stages: administrative eligibility check, external evaluation done by the Catalan Government Research Evaluation Agency (AGAUR), and finally, interview evaluation. The earliest onboarding of the successful candidates is envisaged for December 2023-February 2024.
