On July 4 and 5, the Paraguayan Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine held the Catalan Conference of Hematology in Asunción, Paraguay. This event, now in its fourth edition, focused on the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of various hemopathies. The meeting was a great success with more than 300 attendees, including hematology experts, specialists in other related fields and students.

As in the previous editions, several researchers from the Josep Carreras Institute participated in the conference and delivered some of the lectures. Among the speakers from the Institute were Dr. Evarist Feliu, president of the institution's Management Committee, the group leaders Dr. Tomàs Navarro, Dr. Blanca Xicoy and Dr. Albert Oriol and the researchers Dr. Anna Torrent, Dr. Gladys Ibarra and Dr. Elisa Orna. The Data Manager of IJC, Marta Carrió, also attended the event, and together with Dr. Feliu delivered a lecture on the scientific production of the Josep Carreras Institute (2010-2022).

The first Catalan Conference of Hematology in Paraguay was held in 2015, thanks to the initiative of Dr. Evarist Feliu, Dr. José Ferreira and Dr. Élida Centurión, with the aim of strengthening ties and collaboration between hematologists from Paraguay and Catalonia. This year's meeting coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Paraguayan Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, headed by Dr. Lidiane Andino. In addition to attending the conference, the speakers also had the opportunity to visit the Hematology and Oncology Services of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) and the Centro Productor de Sangre of Asunción.
