IMMERGE aims at disentangling the link between mutations and clinical features in immune monogenic diseases. To this end, we researchers will investigate the effects of genetic mutations in the biology of immune cells using a wide range of genomic, computational and correction approaches. The project is coordinated by Dr. Esteban Ballestar and Dr. José Luis Sardina, Group Leaders at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute. IMMERGE is a Doctoral Network funded by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation Programme (GA No. 101119927).

The IMMERGE project is a one-of-a-kind PhD-level educational program that offers a multidisciplinary approach to provide specialized training to 12 Doctoral Candidates (DC) in the field of immunology. The program focuses particularly on Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI) and will be supervised by world-renowned international experts in the field. IMMERGE unites leading experts from 10 European and International public and private institutions in the fields of immunology, genetics, epigenetics, proteomics, single cell omics, bioinformatics, and gene correction.

The key points of the IMMERGE programme are:

  • Scientific scope: To study the impact of Inborn Errors of Immunity on immune cell functions.

  • Areas: immunology, genetics, epigenetics, proteomics, single cell omics, bioinformatics, and gene correction.

  • Multidisciplinary approach and international mobility of candidates.

  • PhD positions in 10 different host institutions around EU.

  • Outstanding tailored training program for all the fellows. Included secondment periods in the institutions participating in the program.

  • Competitive salary and working conditions.

Criteria for eligibility candidates:

  • Must not have a doctoral degree at their recruitment.

  • Comply with the MSCA mobility rule of not having resided or carried out their main activities (work, study, etc.) in the country of the recruiting organisation for more than 12 months in the last 36 months immediately before the recruitment date.

  • Must have a master’s degree or its equivalent at their recruitment.
