Dr. Manel Esteller ranked as the second best scientist across all research areas in Spain

The Director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, Dr. Manel Esteller, has been recognized as the second best scientist in Spain considering all research disciplines, according to the 2023 ranking of leading scientists of Research.com. The ranking also places Dr. Esteller at the top of the lists in Medicine and Genetics among scientists in Spain.

Research.com has published its 2023 ranking of leading scientists in the world, based on data acquired from Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph. The list, which includes all research disciplines, has considered Dr. Manel Esteller, Director of the Josep Carreras Institute (IJC), ICREA Research Professor and Chairman of Genetics at the University of Barcelona, as one of the most outstanding and relevant scientist in the world.

The renowned Epigenetics expert has been ranked as the second best scientist in Spain across all research disciplines. In the global ranking, Dr. Esteller has been listed in the 633rd position across all scientific areas among more than 166 000 profiles. Research.com has also published rankings of the most relevant scientists per research fields, including the areas of Medicine and Genetics, in which the IJC Director has also been placed at the top of the lists among scientists in Spain.

Dr. Esteller’s research primarily focuses on the mechanisms controlling human genome activity, a field known as Epigenetics. He specializes in its applications across various pathologies, particularly cancer. Dr. Esteller's groundbreaking work has not only unveiled the underlying foundations of numerous diseases but has also facilitated the development of innovative molecular tests for their detection and the approval of nine anti-cancer drugs.
