CarrerasPathfinders call now open: a new doctoral programme to train the next generation in the search for cures for blood cancer

The CarrerasPathfinders programme is a new, globally unique doctoral programme that covers all aspects of research and innovation in haematological cancers, from understanding the biology of the disease to the implementation of innovative processes in clinical practice. The programme has been designed and is coordinated by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC); a non-profit European institute of excellence mainly dedicated to blood cancers.

The programme launches its call for new candidates on 2 January, 2024, and will be open for applications until 1 March, 2024. The triple dimension of this programme, focused on internationality, intersectorality and interdisciplinarity, will shape a new generation of researchers capable of providing innovative solutions to existing needs within biomedicine in haematological cancers.

Eligible candidates must have a master's degree in life sciences, not have a doctorate degree on the date of hire and must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately preceding the call. The selection will consist of 3 stages: an administrative verification of eligibility, an external evaluation carried out by the Madri+d Knowledge Foundation and, finally, an evaluation through a personal interview. Following the announcement of the final selection, the onboarding of selected candidates will begin in June 2024.

The programme's website and its social networks contain the information necessary for the correct application, including the necessary documents to present and a Guide for Applicants. In addition, there is a description of the 14 excellent preselected doctoral projects. Each applicant may apply for up to 3 projects. The call has also been published on the EURAXESS website.
