In developed countries, ageing is the primary risk factor for diseases characterised by high morbidity and mortality rates, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. This progressive deterioration is associated with epigenetic drift, which consists of changes in the chemical marks on DNA that alter gene expression and contribute to the decline. This leads to an increase in biological age, which is defined as a person’s physiological state. In this context, epigenetic clocks have emerged as a valuable tool for predicting a person’s biological age and risk of death. This article describes this useful bioinformatics tool and highlights its potential in future biomedical research
