Biography
My research work is based on the development of novel technologies for Genome Engineering and their application to modelling and treating human diseases. These technologies great potential to advance the study of the causes and mechanisms involved in the development of human diseases such as leukemia.
Currently, my main objective is to gain knowledge about the biology and origin of human cancer, specifically childhood leukaemia. I am particularly interested in the study of chromosomal rearrangements that generate new fusion genes with new or altered biological activity; and also in the molecular mechanisms involved in the tumorigenic process. The generation of in vitro and in vivo models of human cancer chromosomal translocations will help us to understand the role of fusion genes. I am convinced that these models will be of unquestionable value for the scientific community, for the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms and for the development of new therapeutic strategies and new compounds.
