Dr. Merkel is an experienced bioinformatician with more than 10 years research experience in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. She has worked in the field of genomics, transcriptomics and epigenomics on influential projects such as ENCODE (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements) and BLUEPRINT (Blueprint of the Epigenome of human Hematopoiesis). She has benchmarked and developed bioinformatic pipelines for the primary and secondary analysis of RNA-seq and BS-seq and is experienced in data integration and functional analysis. She enjoys the development of computational approaches and visualization techniques for scientific data.
