Professor Ciril Rozman

Professor Rozman's training was undertaken entirely under the auspices of two great maestros of Catalan medicine: Professors A. Pedro Pons and P. Farreras Valentí. In 1967 he was appointed Chair of Pathology and Clinical Medicine at the University of Salamanca. In 1969 he succeeded his former mentors, as Chair of Medicine and Director of the School of Hematology
respectively, at the University of Barcelona.

He is one of the most outstanding personalities in the field of internal medicine, both in Spain and throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Since 1968 he has directed the seminal work in Spanish on internal medicine, Tratado de Medicina Interna Farreras-Rozman, of which there are now 18 editions, and is editor emeritus of the journal, Medicina Clínica.

At the present time he is emeritus professor at the University of
Barcelona and permanent member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia. For 24 years he was vice-president of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, the International Scientific Committee of which he currently presides.

In the field of hematology Prof. Rozman is considered to be one of the world’s leading experts on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). His involvement in hematological therapy has focused on bone marrow transplants. He was the first person in Spain to perform an allogenic transplant.
