Our Research

Leukemia research at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is carried out within 10 research lines.  Five of these are horizontal and five are transversal.

All the groups working within these lines adhere to the following principles:

  • All research is inspired by patients and aimed at benefitting patients
  • Efficiency is key; there will be no duplication but different groups will carry out research within the 10 research lines at the different campuses
  • There will be optimal use of technology; the research groups will share state of the art technical platforms with other groups working at the different campuses.  Investments will be planned to maximise the use of high quality facilities at each site

Vertical Research Lines

Each vertical research line represents a disease

1.  Acute leukemias

2.  Chronic Lymphoproliferative Disorders

3.  Chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasms

4.  Monoclonal Gammopathies

5.  Myelodysplastic Syndromes

Transversal Research Lines

6.   Hematological  malignancies and coagulation

7.   Complications associated with therapeutic processes

8.   Haemopoietic stem cell transplant and cell therapy

9.   Epidemiological Research

10.  Clinical Research Trials

Research Groups

At the moment three full research groups are working in the institute and many other scientist and doctors are collaborating on projects and have published under the affiliation of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute.   As the formal agreements are signed with collaborators many more groups will be added to the 10 research lines.
