Proteomics Unit

Introduction

Description

The IJC proteomic unit develop and apply advanced proteomic analysis that are used for different aspects of clinical and health sciences such as biomarker discovery, drug target identification and food technology.

The Proteomics unit of the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute offers mass spectrometry services to the academic and the private sector. The proteomics unit belongs to the scientific and technical services (SCT) of our institution. The principal activity of the Scientific and Technical Services (SCT) is to support academic research despite the private for-profit organizations are also increasingly interested in accessing our services. Our unit is part of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the Proteomics Network platform (ProteoRed).

One of the main activities of the unit is to promote the incorporation of proteomics as a necessary tool for the development of clinical and basic projects in our institution.

One of the great challenges of biomedical research and precision medicine is the description of the mechanisms underlying pathological processes and, based on this, to define measurable biomarkers in a standardized way and new therapeutic targets, generally of a protein nature.

Proteomics Unit Human Team:

Our proteomic facility has a well-established experience in Proteomics and Peptidomics field, providing complementary content and insight for our strategic collaborators to develop more effective, time and cost-efficient healthcare solutions.

Our main work:

To offer innovative and high quality proteomic and peptidomic services in the following disciplines: descriptive proteomics, quantitative proteomics/identification of biomarkers, protein characterization and identification of post-translational modifications as well as the identification of biomolecular interactions.  In general, they allow the best therapeutic and human health solution. We aim to deliver innovative proteomic and peptidomic services that allow the best therapeutic and human health solution.

How do we support you?

  • To be a scientific and technological support unit, to high level research projects in the Proteomics field according to international standard procedures.

  • Scientific advice to the researcher, from the planning and experimental design of the project to the execution, processing of samples, interpretation of results and support in the presentation and writing of results for publication.

  • Dissemination and training of researchers on the methodology and applications of the techniques offered.

  • To contribute to the promotion of innovation in health technologies and the transfer of the knowledge generated to the NHS. Supporting genetic, epigenetic and pharmacogenetic diagnosis.

Services & Applications

Proteomic analysis is a very powerful approach to address relevant challenges in clinical and health research.

Biomarker Discovery from a wide-range of samples, that can improve precision medicine at different levels:  a) Diagnostic in early stages, b) Prognostic to predict disease progression and guiding treatment selection.

  • Developing drugs in the post-genomic era faces new challenges to enable faster regulatory approval and development of precision medicine.  IJC proteomic unit applies proteomic analytical standard procedures to get a broad biological context of targets and drug mechanisms based on analysis of total protein expression and post-translational modifications (e.g. phosphorylation).

  • Natural bioactive peptide discovery and validation. We combine artificial intelligence (AI) and peptidomics to discover bioactive peptides with excellent health benefits.

Our unit targets, predicts and unlocks novel Bioactive Peptides from natural sources. These deliver highly specific, efficient and life-changing health benefits.
