Two Research Groups Recognized under the SGR Scheme

The Stem cells, development and cancer group of Pablo Menéndez at the Campus Clinic-UB and the Hematological Neoplasias group, led by Francesc Solé at the Campus ICO-GTiP were both recognized as new groups this year under the Support for Research Groups Scheme of the Generalitat.

The scheme is financed with 21.6 million euros for the period of 2014-2016.   Recognized groups can apply for funds to pay staff and doctoral students working on their projects (up to 8,000 per doctoral member in the group).   The recognition is vital for groups to be able to apply to this important source of funding.   Staff and especially doctoral students carry out a great deal of the work in research laboratories; in recent years other funding bodies have cut funds available to employ people but the AGAUR grants provide much needed oxygen to research groups and help them to continue their research
