Dr. Ribera Awarded a grant by Gilead

Dr.Josep Maria Ribera from the Catalan Institute for Oncology and the IJC ICO-GTIP Campus has been awarded a €34,220 grant by the biopharmaceutical company Gilead Espanya for a project Next Generation Sequencing versus high sensitivity flow cytometry for the detection of residual disease in childhood and adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The aim of this project is to establish whether the new techniques available to analyse genetic changes will lead to more accurate measurement of leukaemia remaining after a patient has undergone treatment will lead to better predictions of outcome than the methods used until now. It is vital to be able to measure the success of treatments to allow doctors to take decisions about the need for future chemotherapy or transplants of hematopoietic precursors.
