Dr. Fumiichiro Yamamoto, Principal Investigator at the IJC has co-organized the successful 1st PMPPC Conference 11 November
The co-organizers were Dr. Manuel Perucho, the Director of the Programa de Medicina Predictiva i Personalitzada del Cancer (PMPPC-IGTP) and Dr. Manel Puig, the Scientific Director of Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute(IGTP).
The conference was organized to better understand cancer from different perspectives based on recent progresses in the generation and analysis of comprehensive “omics” data, aiming at realizing personalized cancer medicine based on that information. Emphasis was placed on gastrointestinal, lung, endocrine cancers, and leukemia. The event show-cased the cutting-edge research being carried out on the campus on a many diseases and high-lighted the expertise in genomics, epigenomics, glycomicsµbiomics.
Dr. Yamamoto also chaired Session 4: Glycomics, and gave a talk entitled, “An introduction to glycomics to study glycogenes/glycosyltransferases/ glycans: Genetic, physiological, pathological, and evolutionary aspects”.In that session Dr. Henrik Clausen of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark gave the talk “Aberrant O-glycoproteins may serve as cancer-specific immunotargets”and Dr. Ten Feizi of Imperial College of London, United Kingdom presented “Carbohydrate microarrays for assignments and exploitation of cancer-associated epithelial antigens” respectively. The IJC is particularly proud to have been able to host a session that included these two world authorities in glycobiology.
Dr. Francesc Sole and Dr. Marcus Buschbeck of the IJC also chaired Session 9: Leukemia and Session 10: Cancer Epigenetics, respectively.
Other talks presented by IJC researchers are as follows:
Dr. Ramón Mangues (IJC, Campus H. Sant Pau)
“Protein nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery to metastasis initiating cells “
Dr. Marcus Buschbeck (IJC, PMPPC)
“Histone variants link genome architecture and metabolism”
Dr. Pablo Menéndez (IJC, Campus H. Clínico)
“Infant proB Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia MLL-AF4+: an outlier pediatric cancer/developmental disease”
Ms. Anna Palau (IJC, PMPPC)
“RING1A limits differentiation in myelodysplastic syndromes”
