Adoptive Car T-Cells therapy for refractory Acute Myeloid Leukaemia(AML).
AML is a form of cancer affecting the myeloid line of blood cells. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of immature blood cells' precursors that, accumulating in the bone marrow, interfere with normal hematopoiesis.
My current work focuses on exploring the potential Anti-Leukemic properties of genetically modified T-cells, expressing Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) directed against cancer-specific targets. CARs' design comprises an Extracellular Single Chain Variable Fragment (scFv) of a monoclonal antibody, recognizing a cancer- specific surface molecule, a spacer domain that provides flexibility and optimizes T-cell/target engagement, a transmembrane domain, and signaling modules that trigger and sustain over time T-cell effector functions.
The antitumoral properties of these genetically-engineered T-Cells will be tested both in vitro and in vivo using cell lines and primary samples from AML patients.
